Applying to SoTA
Applications to the School of Theatre Arts open on August 1 each year. Once you apply to º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ you will receive the links to register for your audition/interview.
Because ours is a highly selective program, º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ students experience close, personal instruction from an outstanding faculty/staff who lead them through rigorous theatrical training.
The School of Theatre Arts sees hundreds of candidates from across the country each year and mindfully accepts only a handful. Faculty/Staff regularly attend , , , , , and .
2026-27 Audition/Interview Dates:
- November 14, 2026 join us for Spring Awakening
- January 16, 2027 join us for TBA
- February 27, 2027 join us for The Revolutionists
- (virtual dates by appointment)
During your on-campus audition/interview you will have the opportunity to meet current faculty and students, tour campus and theatre facilities, and observe a performance. Virtual appointments are available, however on-campus auditions/interviews are preferred.

Audition Requirements & Registration by Program
- Submit a FREE application to º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ University.
- (Optional) Register for your interview date.
- (Optional) Prepare a theatre resume and portfolio. Your portfolio should present examples of your artistry.
- Submit a FREE application to º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ University.
- Register for your audition date.
- Prepare a theatre resume and headshot.
- Prepare two contrasting monologues for a combined time of under three minutes. (No Shakespeare please.)
- Submit a FREE application to º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ University.
- Submit your prescreen materials via our page, which includes your resume and headshot. Prescreens open 9/1/2027 and close 1/1/2027. (If you make our callback list at CAP, IHSTF, MO Thespians, or ITF you do not need to submit prescreen materials.)
- If selected to audition you will be notified to register for an audition date.
**º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ participates in the , please follow all guidelines on their website. These are the required materials:
Song Requirements: Option A
- One song written before 1970 (musical theater, Golden Age, pop, folk, rock, soul, country, etc.).
- One song written after 1970 (musical theater, pop, hip-hop, folk, rock, rap, soul, country, punk, etc.). This song should contrast the style of the first selection.
Monologue Requirements: Option A
- One monologue from a published play or written by a professional writer. (A professional writer is someone whose plays have been produced, but may not have been professionally published.)
Dance Requirements: Option A
- Show us your best version of choreographed dancing or moving. Please include at least one turn, one jump and one kick (or other suitable rotation, elevation, and extension that works for your body).
Ballet Requirements: Option C
- No ballet required.
